about

A modern murder ballad for the people. 'Gas Can' is the first single release off of Pine & FIre's upcoming album, 'Songs from the North Country'.

lyrics

well i woke up to a flat tire and had to call for a tow
which made me late to my job and overdrafted my bank account
when i got to work i said sir i swear this time it wasn’t my fault
then the boss man said theres no excuses that’s your third strike and you’re out

so i got my gas can and my old shot gun i went right back to my job and did what had to be done
i put hole into his chest and set fire to the rest
i drove away into the sun with no remorse for the things i done

then i got back home only to find my landlord waiting outside the house
he said do ya know what day it is, i said i don’t, he said the tenth
i said i suppose you want your rent well i ain’t got it not a single cent
i turned him away but the very next day i gotta a letter saying to vacate

so i got my gas can and my old shotgun
i went straight down to his office and did what had to be done
i put a hole into his chest and set fire to the rest
i drove away into the sun with no remorse for the things I’d done

bout two in the morn there’s a knock on the door
and through the window i see a light
now i already knew it was some boys in blue and i was ready for a fight
i walked real quiet across the floor, only saw two cops, i expected more
i went out firing and gunned them down ran to my car and left that town

now i have my gas can and my old shotgun
to keep me company while im on the run
i put a hole into the chest of every man who made me feel like less
i drove away into the sun with no remorse for the things i done

see i worked hard and i don’t know why i can’t afford to be alive
my ma and pa they worked hard too they told me if i stayed in school
that i could be anything that i could dream, my ma and pa they were fools

now i have my gas can and my old shotgun
to keep me company while im on the run
i put a hole into the chest of every man who made me feel like less
i drove away into the sun with no remorse for the things i done
